I Smell a Christmas Card…

Looking back over the past five years, it’s funny to think back to where I thought I’d be at this time. Five years ago, I was finishing up my senior year at Cornell University in Upstate New York. I was applying to graduate programs and daydreaming about the life ahead of me.

Fast forward to now. Things certainly aren’t the way I had dreamt them to be. But that’s not to say it’s a bad thing! In many, many ways life is better than what I had imagined. For instance, little did I think that I’d be living in Chicago in a house with my husband and a dog. Little did I know that I’d be pursuing photography while working a full-time job in healthcare.

Little did I know that I’d be living a mere six blocks away from my older brother (and his wife) in a city that is not our hometown. Little did I know that I would be photographing them for their Christmas card. And that’s just what I did last Friday in a quick mini session with my brother and his wife (and dog and little one on the way)

I’d say it was a success. I can smell a Christmas card a-brewin’!

{Chicago Couples Photography}: The W's

I was thrilled a few weeks back when Michele contacted me about doing a session with her and her husband to celebrate their 2nd wedding anniversary. I wish more couples out there were like her and had the same idea. Photography opportunities don’t have to be saved for engagements, weddings, or when kids are in the picture!

Needless to say, it was a great change of pace for me. Up until this session I had been doing children and/or family sessions.  Michele even brought her sister Cara along to jump in on a few pictures. We met at Promontory Park in the Hyde Park neighborhood on a chilly Saturday morning. Many of the leaves had fallen, but several trees were at their peak. The three of them were awesome to work with and were up for whatever I had in mind. I had a great time photographing them and hope to do more sessions like theirs in the future. I left feeling so excited about what I had captured and hope you can see why below.

Thanks so much to the W’s and Cara for a great session! You all were such a pleasure to work with!

{Chicago Couples Photography}: Ryan and Jess

My husband and I spend so much time with my brother Ryan and sister-in-law Jess that they’re never surprised when I whip out my camera. I think they’re starting to get used to my incessant picture taking, and they don’t complain when I send them a picture or two of their adorable dog either.

I shot this picture of the two of them when my mom was taking a picture of them (hence why they are looking towards a different direction). I actually love how it turned out!

I hope they don’t mind me taking many more pictures of the two of them (and their growing family) in the future! Family makes the best practice after all!

I’ll be back soon with some exciting news (hint: a first session is in the works)!

{Chicago Couples Photography}: My Parents

Since I’ve been M.I.A. recently with the meaningful posts and will continue to be over the next week or so as we get settled in our new house, I thought I’d share another picture I took over the weekend.

Yes, those would be my parents. And yes, I realize I basically only take pictures of them, R, and Marty.

But that won’t be for long…
